LG Display Begins Mass Production of 1–120Hz Adaptive Laptop Panel
LG Display has started mass production of the world’s first laptop panel capable of dynamically adjusting its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.
The panel automatically lowers the refresh rate to 1Hz during static tasks like reading or email, and increases it up to 120Hz for activities such as gaming or video streaming. This adaptive approach improves power efficiency by reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
The company developed new circuit algorithms and panel design technologies, including low-leakage oxide materials for thin-film transistors, to enable this functionality.
As a result, the panel delivers up to 48 percent longer battery usage compared to conventional laptop displays. This is expected to enhance mobility and usability, especially as AI-driven workloads increase power demand.
LG Display will supply the panel to Dell for its premium XPS lineup, which was introduced at CES 2026.
The company is also planning to expand the technology to OLED panels starting in 2027 as part of its broader energy efficiency initiatives.
