Panasonic Avionics has introduced a new cloud-based Wi-Fi Portal that gives airlines more control over how they manage in-flight connectivity. The system works across mixed fleets that use different service providers and can be customized directly by airlines without formal change requests.
Using self-service tools, airlines can adjust the design of their portal, change pricing, update content or offer free or discounted Wi-Fi to certain passengers based on factors like frequent flyer status or cabin class. This flexibility allows airlines to align connectivity options with their own brand and onboard strategies.
The platform also aims to reduce difficulties passengers often face when buying Wi-Fi during flights. Through partnerships with global mobile network operators, passengers can use their existing roaming plans and connect through the airline portal. The system offers a simpler interface that speeds up the purchase process.
Airlines can also integrate the Wi-Fi Portal with Panasonic’s OneMedia platform to include advertising and sponsorship options. The solution uses cloud-based infrastructure, a self-service content management system and APIs that allow integration with apps and third-party platforms.
Panasonic reports that more than 70 airlines worldwide already use its connectivity services.
