Philips has announced BlueSeal Horizon, a new 3.0T MRI platform designed with a helium-free magnet that uses only seven liters of sealed helium. The system is presented as a step in evolving MRI technology by reducing dependency on helium, simplifying installation requirements, and lowering operational risks related to helium refills and venting infrastructure. This launch builds on Philips’ previous work with helium-free 1.5T systems, which have collectively reduced helium consumption in clinical settings.
The platform combines new hardware with a set of AI-supported tools aimed at improving workflow consistency, planning, and image quality. SmartPlanning is expected to streamline study setup, including for cardiac imaging. Real-time Scan Preview uses accelerated computing to support faster reconstruction and noise reduction, giving radiologists more control during examinations. SmartSpeed Precise is designed to enhance both scanning efficiency and image detail, while SmartReading integrates cloud-based reporting capabilities for neurological and oncological use cases.
Through these updates, BlueSeal Horizon is positioned to broaden access to advanced imaging methods and support routine clinical decision-making. The solution is currently classified as a work in progress and is not yet commercially available.
