Samsung Electronics verifies eXtreme multiple input multiple output technology in the 7 GHz band for 6G development in collaboration with KT Corporation and Keysight Technologies.
During outdoor field testing at Samsung’s Seoul R&D Campus, the companies achieve a peak downlink speed of up to 3 Gbps in the 7 GHz band. The trial uses a 6G base station prototype with 256 digital ports and an ultra high density antenna system delivering four times the antenna density of current 5G systems.
The 7 GHz band is considered a key candidate for 6G as it balances coverage and capacity between mid band and millimeter wave frequencies. X MIMO enhances throughput while maintaining coverage by compensating for shorter propagation distances.
The companies also reference earlier validation of AI based radio access network optimization in a commercial network. Samsung states it will continue collaborating with global partners to advance 6G technologies.
