Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the beta release of a new version of Bixby in One UI 8.5. The update transforms Bixby into a more conversational device agent, allowing Galaxy users to control device settings and features using natural language. The announcement was made on January 20, 2026.
With this update, users no longer need to know exact setting names or navigate menus. Bixby understands intent based on everyday language and takes action directly, helping reduce time and effort spent managing device settings. It can also explain why certain device behaviors occur and suggest relevant settings to resolve them.
The new Bixby also introduces real time web search through Perplexity. This allows users to receive up to date information from the open web directly within the Bixby interface, without switching apps or browsers. Searches such as travel planning or general queries can be handled seamlessly as part of the same experience.
The updated Bixby will first be available through One UI 8.5 in select markets, with wider availability planned in future updates.
