Samsung Electronics has been selected by Vodafone as a primary partner to deploy Open RAN and virtualized RAN (vRAN) solutions in Germany and other European countries. Germany marks the first market for this deployment, which will become one of Europe’s largest Open RAN rollouts, with thousands of sites planned over a five-year program. The first site is live in Hannover, while Wismar is expected to be fully equipped by early 2026.

Samsung will provide multi-generational vRAN solutions supporting 2G, 4G, and 5G, along with O-RAN compliant radios, including Massive MIMO, and the AI-powered Samsung CognitiV Network Operations Suite for intelligent automation. Its software-based architecture enables improved energy efficiency, performance optimization, and reduced total cost of ownership . RAN sharing capabilities will allow operators to deploy high-performing shared networks, cutting hardware costs and energy consumption.

This collaboration also includes full lifecycle support, from planning and deployment to operation and optimization, ensuring seamless AI integration and autonomous network management. Samsung will partner with Dell Technologies, Intel, and Wind River to deliver end-to-end solutions. By leveraging its expertise in software-based, AI-enabled networks, Samsung supports Vodafone’s vision to advance Open RAN adoption, expand connectivity, and foster a more efficient, sustainable, and intelligent mobile network infrastructure across Europe.
