Sony Semiconductor Solutions has announced the IMX775 CMOS RGB-IR image sensor, designed for in-cabin vehicle monitoring. Scheduled for mass production in spring 2026, the sensor features the industry’s smallest 2.1 µm pixel size and delivers approximately 5 effective megapixels, enabling wide-angle imaging of both drivers and passengers. It combines visible light and near-infrared imaging on a single chip, with high sensitivity at the 940 nm wavelength to ensure accurate monitoring even in low-light conditions.

The IMX775 is equipped with a hybrid rolling and global shutter system, achieving 110 dB dynamic range for RGB imaging, and integrates Sony’s proprietary algorithm to remove unwanted NIR components from RGB pixels, ensuring accurate color reproduction. The sensor’s high NIR sensitivity supports precise recognition of driver attention, passenger posture, and seatbelt usage, helping meet evolving automotive safety regulations.

Key features include a pyramid pixel structure for 35% quantum efficiency at 940 nm, built-in signal processing for enhanced resolution, and context switching for flexible frame output. The product is designed to meet automotive reliability standards and includes optional cybersecurity features, such as sensor and image authentication.
