The Tamil Nadu government has introduced the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission 2030, allocating INR 500 crore to develop the state’s semiconductor industry.
As part of this initiative, the government has launched the Semiconductor Design Promotion Scheme, which provides subsidies and prototyping grants to fabless design firms to support local innovation and design in semiconductors.
The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) will set up new Centres of Excellence focused on research, testing, and training through public-private partnerships. These centres will facilitate collaboration between industry and academia for technological and skill development.
An upskilling program is planned to train up to 1,000 engineering students complementing the School of Semiconductor programs conducted in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. This program aims to support the development of a workforce with skills relevant to the semiconductor sector.
