Toshiba Corporation and battery-tech startup naturenix are moving their electric motorcycle taxi battery project in Bangkok into a larger paid phase. The new pilot will run from December 2025 to March 2026, supporting up to 100 e-motorcycles and five charging stations across the city.

In the first phase from September 2024 to March 2025, drivers swapped Toshiba’s SCiB lithium-ion batteries at a single station for free. The test confirmed strong battery performance in Bangkok’s hot climate and validated naturenix’s charging and modification technologies. Feedback from drivers also helped refine the service.

The second phase introduces upgraded battery packs with real-time monitoring, better charge and discharge management, and reuse potential for second-life applications. Toshiba will continue to supply SCiB batteries while naturenix provides its rapid charging solution. Windee International will help collect driver feedback on pricing and technical improvements.

The project is designed to test a sustainable business model that focuses on long-life batteries and subscription services rather than mass production and waste. After this stage, Toshiba and naturenix plan to launch a full commercial service for motorcycle taxi drivers in fiscal 2026, with possible expansion to forklifts and other industries.
