Daikin Industries has received approval from the Science-based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction plan, recognizing its long-term goal as a certified Net Zero Target. The SBTi is a global partnership formed in 2015 by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and WWF to help companies align emissions targets with the Paris Agreement. So far about 2,000 companies worldwide including around 80 from Japan have received similar certifications.
Daikin was earlier certified for its near-term targets in February 2024. The latest approval confirms its FY2050 goals as aligned with net zero standards. Under these targets, Daikin aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 46.2 percent compared to FY2020 by FY2031 and Scope 3 emissions by 55 percent per JPY value added in the same timeframe. By FY2050 the company plans to reach net zero emissions across its entire value chain.
As a manufacturer of air conditioners and refrigerants Daikin has set out its Environment Vision 2050 to balance business growth with climate action. The company intends to provide air solutions worldwide while working toward a decarbonized society.
