Dr. Eko Onggosanusi of Samsung Research America receives the 2025 3rd Generation Partnership Project Excellence Award for his contributions to mobile telecommunications standards.

The award recognizes individual efforts in developing next generation mobile standards. Dr. Onggosanusi is honored for his leadership in 3GPP RAN Working Group 1, particularly in advancing multiple input multiple output systems.

He has served as a RAN1 delegate since 2005 and contributes to early 4G LTE development. After joining Samsung in 2014, he becomes rapporteur for full dimension MIMO systems. From 2014 to 2025, he leads six consecutive MIMO work items across 4G LTE and 5G New Radio releases.

MIMO technology improves network efficiency, data speeds and coverage through advanced multi antenna systems. Its evolution supports large scale antenna deployment in 5G and is expected to influence future 6G standards.

This marks the eighth time a Samsung employee receives the 3GPP Excellence Award.
