Nokia and Ericsson have announced a collaboration to accelerate the transition toward Autonomous Networks through open standards and multivendor automation.
As part of the agreement, Ericsson will join the Nokia SMO Marketplace, while Nokia will become a member of the Ericsson rApp Ecosystem built around the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform. This mutual participation allows communication service providers to access rApps across both platforms and integrate automation tools more easily within multivendor environments.
The collaboration focuses on advancing innovation around the R1 interface, which enables rApps to interact with the Service Management and Orchestration framework. By promoting compatibility and openness, both companies aim to support cloud RAN, purpose built RAN and Open RAN deployments with stronger automation capabilities.
The partnership is designed to give CSPs greater flexibility, encourage broader ecosystem participation and accelerate progress toward higher levels of network autonomy, including Level 4 automation.
Through shared ecosystem membership and cross platform availability of rApps, Nokia and Ericsson aim to simplify integration, improve operational efficiency and enable faster deployment of intelligent network capabilities worldwide.
