Google has unveiled a major upgrade to Google Maps in India, integrating its powerful Gemini AI and introducing 10 new India-first features designed to make navigation and exploration smarter, safer, and more localized. The updates reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to combining cutting-edge AI with deep local insights from its extensive Maps community and partnerships across India.
Over the past year, Google has implemented millions of daily updates to the map in India, scaled features such as flyover callouts and narrow road navigation, and expanded coverage for EV charging stations and public transport through collaborations with Tata Power, ONDC, Namma Yatri, and BEST. The platform also surfaces 150,000 disruption alerts daily, enhancing route accuracy and user experience.
The latest upgrades include Gemini-powered enhancements for more intuitive search and navigation, real-time safety alerts developed in partnership with government agencies, and optimized tools for two-wheeler, four-wheeler, and metro commuters. These innovations aim to deliver more personalized, context-aware, and secure travel experiences tailored to India’s diverse mobility landscape.
