Larsen & Toubro’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business has achieved feed-in of the world’s first LC-Max Residue Upgradation Facility at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s Visakh Refinery in Andhra Pradesh. The facility has a processing capacity of 3.55 million metric tonnes per annum and has been successfully commissioned with actual vacuum residue feed from the existing refinery.
Executed on an EPC turnkey basis the project is the most complex unit of HPCL’s Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project under India’s National Energy Self-Reliance Programme. The unit upgrades low-value residue into higher-value products that meet BS-VI emission standards and improves the efficiency of domestic crude oil refining.
The facility introduces several first-of-their-kind technologies in Indian refineries including ebullating pumps Grayloc flanges pressure let-down stations and pitch solidification and handling systems.
The project recorded 58 million safe workhours reflecting strong safety and execution discipline.
