Nokia has been selected by altafiber to support a large scale fiber network expansion across Ohio and Hawaii where altafiber operates as Hawaiian Telcom. The project aims to deliver faster broadband, improve scalability and strengthen network reliability for business and residential customers.

Under the deployment, altafiber will use Nokia’s 25G PON fiber solution along with IP routing, optical transport and security technologies. Nokia’s Lightspan 25G PON platform supports 10G, 25G and 50G PON on the same infrastructure. This allows altafiber to offer symmetrical multi gigabit services today while preparing for future bandwidth needs.

Nokia’s 7750 Service Routers will serve as the core IP routing layer to manage high volumes of traffic securely and efficiently. Network security and performance will be supported by the Nokia Deepfield solution. Optical network components including the 1830 Photonic Service Switch and 1830 Photonic Service Interconnect will help simplify operations while maintaining strong security.
