Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. has achieved conformance with the ISO IEC 5230 OpenChain standard for open source license compliance. The certification confirms that the company has established structured processes to manage open source software use with transparency and reliability across its operations.
ISO IEC 5230 defines management practices for the responsible use of open source software and was developed through the OpenChain Project led by the Linux Foundation. As open source software becomes more common across the automotive supply chain effective compliance management has become increasingly important.
To strengthen its approach Panasonic Automotive Systems set up an internal Open Source Program Office in April 2025. The OSPO supports developers ensures proper license compliance and helps improve engagement with the open source community. During the certification process the company also formalised its internal OSS usage processes and introduced secure management systems to improve product reliability.
As vehicles move toward software defined architectures the role of open source software continues to expand. Panasonic Automotive Systems has contributed to this shift by supporting open standards and open sourcing technologies such as VirtIO based solutions for in vehicle systems. The company also provides development platforms and virtual environments that help apply standardized specifications in automotive software development.
With this certification Panasonic Automotive Systems plans to continue delivering software driven automotive solutions while supporting the long term growth of the open source ecosystem within the in vehicle technology sector.
