Panasonic Holdings Corporation has confirmed positive improvement trends in caregiving prevention using AI driven intervention planning and chat based communication with elderly individuals. The results come from a research project under Japan’s Strategic Innovation Promotion Program that focuses on connecting elderly people with remote family members through digital services.
The initiative addresses challenges linked to Japan’s ageing population and the growing number of elderly individuals living alone. Panasonic’s approach uses AI chatbots and activity trackers to collect data related to physical, psychological and social risks. Based on expert analysis, AI identifies individual challenges and designs tailored intervention plans. Ongoing support is then delivered through AI based chat, encouraging healthier behaviours using guidance aligned with each person’s personality and available local community resources.
A pilot verification involving twenty elderly participants and their adult children showed measurable improvements after three months. Improvements were observed across physical health, mental wellbeing, nutrition and social engagement. Notably, assessment tools linked to dementia awareness and depression indicated statistically meaningful improvement trends.
The findings suggest that AI driven chat based interventions can support preventive care without relying heavily on face to face services. Panasonic is now exploring broader collaboration with local governments and companies and plans to showcase this work at CES 2026.
