Philips is working with PSV football team to test advanced AI technology that predicts potential overload and infections in players. PSV is the first sports team globally to use this Philips developed solution in an elite sports environment.

The technology is based on the RATE algorithm which analyses data from wearable devices to identify early signals of upper respiratory infections and physical overload before symptoms appear. This allows medical staff to move from reactive care to predictive decision making and helps keep players fit and available. The algorithm has been extensively tested in healthcare settings and research studies.

At PSV, player data is being studied by the club’s sports science and medical teams to assess how early insights can support training adjustments, recovery planning and early medical checks. Infections often spread before symptoms are visible which makes early detection critical in team environments.

Philips is already applying similar AI based algorithms in hospitals for patient monitoring where they help identify deterioration earlier and reduce the risk of intensive care admissions. The collaboration with PSV is expected to further refine the technology for broader use in healthcare.
