At Galaxy Unpacked 2025 in Brooklyn on July 9, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold7, the latest iteration in its foldable smartphone lineup. The new model includes a thinner and lighter design, upgraded camera specifications, and expanded AI capabilities through the updated One UI 8 interface.

Design: Lighter and More Compact

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is now 4.2 mm thick when unfolded and 8.9 mm when folded, with a total weight of 215 grams, making it the most compact device in the Fold series so far. These changes aim to improve portability and ease of use, especially when the device is closed.

The outer display adopts a 21:9 aspect ratio, allowing users to perform everyday tasks such as texting or browsing without unfolding the phone.

Samsung has also introduced a redesigned Armor FlexHinge, which is thinner and helps reduce the visibility of the crease along the foldable display, while still offering structural durability.

Camera: 200MP Sensor With AI Integration

The Z Fold7 features a 200-megapixel main camera, a first for the series. This new sensor is supported by an AI-based ProVisual Engine, designed to enhance clarity and color accuracy in images.

For low-light photography, the Nightography feature has been improved, and the front-facing camera now offers a 100-degree field of view, allowing for wider-angle shots suitable for group photos or landscapes.

Software: One UI 8 With Multimodal AI Support

Launching with One UI 8, the Z Fold7 integrates multimodal AI features powered by Google’s Gemini Live. Users can engage with the AI assistant through voice, text, screen content, or camera input, enabling real-time, context-based assistance.

For example, pointing the camera at an object or viewing an image on the screen allows the AI to recognize it and suggest relevant actions, such as finding similar items, saving locations, or setting calendar reminders. The feature is designed to work across multiple apps without requiring manual switching.

When used with Multi-Window mode, the Fold7 allows for more interactive workflows. Users can view two pieces of content side by side and receive AI-powered suggestions based on both screens simultaneously.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 introduces several practical enhancements in design, photography, and AI functionality. While it continues the foldable format of its predecessors, the latest version focuses on improving usability, performance, and multitasking through software integration and hardware updates.
