Siemens Mobility Secures Rail Modernization Contract With ETCS and Planning Software in Mexico

Siemens Mobility, in consortium with Sonda México SA de CV, has secured a contract to deliver advanced signaling and rail infrastructure for the Mexico City–Querétaro–Irapuato corridor.

The project spans over 300 kilometers and includes eleven passenger stations as part of Mexico’s broader rail modernization initiative. It will deploy the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1, which enhances safety by continuously monitoring train speed and movement.

As part of the project, Siemens Mobility will also introduce TPS.plan in Latin America for the first time. The software enables timetable optimization and efficient use of rail infrastructure through detailed modeling and real-time coordination.

The scope includes signaling systems, an operational control center with backup, and SCADA systems for real-time monitoring. Sonda will support with telecommunications, CCTV and civil works.

The project is expected to improve regional connectivity, support sustainable transport goals and strengthen rail infrastructure across key regions in Mexico.
