Siemens Mobility has begun construction of a new factory in Luhe-Wildenau, Bavaria, dedicated to producing battery systems for rail vehicles. Covering 20,000 square meters, the facility represents an investment of about €35 million, including €22 million from Siemens Mobility and €2.7 million in Bavarian state funding. The site is expected to create up to 200 jobs.

The factory will manufacture complete battery systems for Siemens’ regional trains, locomotives, and external customers. Production will include battery management systems developed with Munich-based Stercom, designed to ensure safety, efficiency, and longer service life. Battery cells will be sourced from external suppliers, while Siemens will handle system integration. The facility will be able to produce up to 120 megawatt-hours of capacity per year once fully operational.

Construction is scheduled to finish in spring 2027, with series production set for October 2027. Siemens Mobility highlighted that the project strengthens Germany as an innovation hub, supports the transport transition, and enhances the competitiveness of the rail industry.
