Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has announced the start of engineering sample shipments for TB9104FTG, a new gate driver designed for bridge circuits used in high-current automotive brushed DC motors.

The gate driver is targeted at vehicle body system applications such as power back doors power sliding doors and power seats where increasing electrification is driving demand for compact and efficient motor control solutions. TB9104FTG is housed in a VQFN32 package measuring 5.0 mm × 5.0 mm and includes an exposed thermal pad to improve heat dissipation. When used with external MOSFETs it enables compact high-current motor drive circuits.

The device integrates a serial peripheral interface (SPI) that supports flexible configuration and status monitoring. Motor rotation commands can be issued through dedicated pins or via SPI. Multiple drivers can share the same SPI bus which helps reduce wiring and supports lighter vehicle designs.

TB9104FTG also includes a built-in PWM drive circuit allowing continuous motor operation with a single command. A high-precision current sense amplifier monitors motor current and supports rapid shutdown in abnormal conditions along with additional fault detection functions.

Toshiba plans to continue expanding its automotive motor driver IC portfolio to support vehicle electrification and improved safety.
