Xiaomi has announced the opening of its first overseas EV Research and Development (R&D) and Design Center in Munich, Germany. The new facility will serve as a key hub for advancing smart mobility, electric vehicle technology, and Xiaomi’s broader “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem strategy.
Munich was chosen for its strong reputation in automotive engineering and design. The center will focus on performance vehicle projects, intelligent driving, and design innovation while ensuring compliance with global safety and quality standards. It will also bring together engineers, researchers, and designers who will collaborate with Xiaomi’s global teams on areas such as autonomous driving, EV platforms, and user experience.
The center aims to foster partnerships with academic and industry players across Europe. This includes work on infrastructure readiness, ecosystem integration, and responsible use of AI in mobility solutions.
This expansion marks a key milestone in Xiaomi’s international growth. Following the launch of models like the SU7 and YU7 in China, the Munich center represents an important step toward Xiaomi EV’s planned European market entry in 2027.
