YouTube is introducing a new Recap feature in India, giving users a way to reflect on their viewing activity from the past year. The Recap appears on the YouTube homepage and in the “You” tab across mobile and desktop, making it easy for people to access their personalised overview.
The feature presents up to twelve cards that outline different aspects of a user’s watch history, such as top channels, interests, and shifts in viewing habits. It also groups viewers into personality types based on the kinds of content they watched, with categories like the Adventurer, Skill Builder, Creative Spirit, Sunshiner, Wonder Seeker, Connector, Philosopher, and Dreamer. These personas are derived from patterns seen across feedback and testing conducted during the feature’s development.
For users who spent time listening to music on YouTube, the Recap expands to include top artists, songs, genres, and podcasts, along with a view of international music preferences via the YouTube Music app.
Overall, the Recap offers a structured way for users to revisit the interests and themes they engaged with throughout the year and gives them the option to save or share these insights with others.
