Par Pacific Holdings, Inc., Mitsubishi Corporation and ENEOS Corporation have agreed to create a joint venture called Hawaii Renewables. The new company will produce renewable fuels at Par Pacific’s refinery in Kapolei, Hawaii. Mitsubishi and ENEOS will form Alohi Renewable Energy, which will hold a 36.5% stake in Hawaii Renewables after investing $100 million. Par Pacific will keep the remaining share and lead the construction and operations through its local unit, Par Hawaii Refining.

The facility will use existing infrastructure and a new pretreatment technology from Lutros. Construction has already started and operations are expected to begin by the end of this year. Once active, Hawaii Renewables will be the largest renewable fuel site in the state, producing around 61 million gallons each year of renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, renewable naphtha and low carbon liquified petroleum gases.

The plant is designed to produce up to 60% aviation fuel, helping reduce emissions from Hawaii’s heavy air travel use. It can also adjust output based on feedstock and market needs.

This partnership combines Par Pacific’s regional operations with Mitsubishi’s global supply chain and ENEOS’s refining and trading experience to support cleaner energy production in Hawaii.
