Three new Mireo Smart Plus B battery-powered trains were presented at Siemens Mobility test center in Wegberg-Wildenrath. These low-emission trains will begin service on the RE 47 line between Remscheid-Lennep and Düsseldorf Central Station by summer 2026. Replacing diesel trains, they are part of Regiobahn’s plan to move toward climate-friendly transport.

Each two-car train has a range of up to 120 km and a top speed of 140 km/h. They use existing rail infrastructure, needing no extra charging stations. Batteries can charge while running or parked, making them efficient and cost-effective. Siemens’ silicon carbide tech also helps reduce energy use.

The trains offer WiFi, quiet rides, barrier-free access and better phone reception. Interiors are designed for comfort and safety, with space for bicycles and charging ports. Siemens will handle full maintenance, using digital tools to monitor train health and ensure reliable operation at its Dortmund service center.
