WhatsApp Shares New Tools and Insights to Help Users Avoid Scams

WhatsApp has shared updates on how it’s tackling scams on its platform, focusing on the growing threat from organized scam centers. These operations often run various fraudulent schemes, such as crypto investments or pyramid setups, usually promising quick profits in exchange for upfront payments.

In the first half of this year, WhatsApp banned over 6.8 million accounts linked to these scam networks before many of them could become active. Scammers often move targets across different apps and platforms to avoid detection and make scams harder to trace.

To help users stay safe, WhatsApp is rolling out new tools. These include a safety screen when someone not in your contacts adds you to a group and alerts when chatting with unknown people.

The platform also shares reminders to question unexpected requests, especially those that involve payments or promises of easy returns and to avoid engaging with unknown contacts.
