LG Innotek Partners with Aeva to Develop Next-Gen LiDAR

LG Innotek has announced a strategic partnership with Aeva, a US-based LiDAR company, to supply and jointly develop advanced LiDAR systems. The companies will work together to create a compact and long-range 4D LiDAR module based on FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) technology. This system can detect objects up to 500 meters away and measure both distance and speed.

The module is designed to be slimmer than typical LiDAR units, making it suitable for mounting behind a vehicle’s windshield instead of on the roof. This gives automakers more flexibility in vehicle design. LG Innotek will manufacture the hardware, while Aeva will integrate its software before the final product is supplied to car manufacturers.

Both companies also signed an agreement to co-develop LiDAR solutions for autonomous vehicles, robots and industrial automation by the end of 2027. LG Innotek plans to invest up to USD 50 million in this collaboration, including a 6% equity stake in Aeva.

The partnership was officially presented at the ‘Aeva Day’ event in New York on July 31. Leaders from both firms outlined a roadmap for long-term cooperation and discussed how their joint work could support a range of next-generation sensing technologies.
