Toshiba Signs MoU to Support Smart Farming in Malaysia

Toshiba Digital Solutions Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding with MyDIGITAL Corporation and Malaysia’s Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) to explore using Toshiba’s Weather Data Service in Malaysia’s smart farming initiative, Projek Ladang Padi IR4.0.

The aim is to help farmers better manage sudden and intense rainfall, which has become more common due to climate change. These downpours often damage rice paddies and cause flooding. Toshiba’s weather service, launched in Japan in 2023, uses real-time radar and in-house analysis to forecast such local weather events with precision.

Under the pilot project, Toshiba will work with MADA and MyDIGITAL to analyze weather radar data from the Malaysian Meteorological Department. Forecasts of heavy rain will be shared with MADA, who will then manage water gates to protect crops. The collaboration is expected to improve crop safety and help farmers make timely decisions.

This initiative builds on a previous MoU between Toshiba and MyDIGITAL and supports Malaysia’s efforts to integrate digital technology into agriculture. Toshiba plans to continue expanding the use of its weather technology in sectors where accurate forecasts can reduce risks and improve outcomes.
