Meta has officially opened its new data center in Kansas City, Missouri, representing a $1 billion investment. The site is now operational and serving traffic as part of Meta’s global infrastructure. At peak construction, the project employed about 1,500 skilled trade workers and will support more than 100 permanent jobs. Meta has also directed over $1 million in funding to local schools and non-profits, while supporting small businesses through digital skills programs and community grants.

The Kansas City Data Center is LEED Gold certified and operates with electricity matched by 100% renewable energy. It also uses water-efficient cooling systems, including stormwater reuse, which saved more than one million gallons of potable water during construction.

Looking ahead, Meta is developing a new generation of AI-optimized data centers, with the first scheduled to open in 2026. These facilities will feature custom hardware and AI-driven resource efficiency while continuing to source materials locally, engage with energy providers and support community-focused projects that strengthen STEAM education and local economies.
