Nikon has released firmware version 2.00 for the Z6III full-frame mirrorless camera. This is the first major update since launch and it adds features also seen in the Z9 and Z8. A key addition is a Birds mode in subject detection that helps track birds in flight against complex backgrounds. The update also includes a focus limiter setting, JPEG fine support during Pre-Release Capture at 60 fps and more accurate control over still and video shooting.

The firmware introduces the Nikon Authenticity Service which follows the C2PA standard. This service records provenance data such as equipment details and digital signatures to verify image authenticity. It helps photographers and media professionals prove their work has not been altered in misleading ways. Provenance data can be checked through Nikon Imaging Cloud.

A new Auto Capture function has also been added. It allows automatic shooting based on subject type, movement direction or distance. Users can also schedule captures in advance and transfer files quickly with a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Other updates include USB streaming for webcam use, pixel shift shooting with bracketing, recall of custom settings and improvements to monitor display and manual focus handling.
