Samsung Electronics is celebrating four decades of appliance innovation at IFA 2025 in Berlin under the theme AI Home: Future Living, Now. Over the years, Samsung’s appliances have evolved from early experiments such as voice-enabled refrigerators and screen-based microwaves to today’s Bespoke AI lineup that adapts to users’ needs.

Voice interaction first appeared in 1985 with the Talking Refrigerator, later advancing into Bixby, Samsung’s AI assistant that now controls multiple home devices with personalized responses. The concept of appliance screens also progressed, starting with a microwave that displayed cooking instructions and TV in 1982, leading to the Family Hub refrigerator in 2016, which connected kitchens through IoT and SmartThings.

Samsung has also pioneered intelligent features across categories. From the Neuro-Fuzzy washing machine in 1991 that optimized cycles automatically, to the QuickDrive washer in 2018 that applied AI-based curation, innovation has remained steady. The Hauzen robot vacuum introduced self-mapping in 2006, paving the way for today’s Bespoke Jet Bot Combo with AI-powered navigation.
