Siemens has partnered with Snowflake to connect operational technology data from factory floors with information technology data stored in the cloud. The collaboration aims to give manufacturers a unified data foundation that supports efficiency improvements, stronger machine performance and AI-driven insights.
Through Siemens Industrial Edge, data from sources like sensors, PLCs and production systems can be collected, processed and transferred to the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. This integration allows manufacturers to use Industrial Edge applications to contextualize OT data and combine it with IT data, such as supply chain and financial information. Once in Snowflake, the data can be analyzed with AI models and agentic AI capabilities to optimize processes, improve product quality and reduce downtime.
FFT, a provider of flexible manufacturing systems, is already using this combined solution in its own facilities through the DataBridge app. The approach addresses issues like data silos and lack of transparency by creating a bridge between edge-level factory data and enterprise-level analytics. This solution is aimed at production managers, IT leaders and data engineers who need reliable connections between shop floor operations and business systems.
