HCLTech has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director on its Board, effective September 8, 2025.
Kant most recently served as India’s G20 Sherpa. In this role, he played a pivotal part in leading India’s G20 Presidency (2022–2023).
Kant’s career spans several decades in public service, where he has held influential policy-making positions in India. As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog for over six years, he initiated transformative programs, including the Aspirational Districts Program, aimed at accelerating development in India’s most underprivileged regions.
He also led initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, the Production Linked Incentive Schemes (PLI), and reforms in Ease of Doing Business.
He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star (2023) by the Government of Japan, the Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, and is also a Chevening Scholar.
In his new role at HCLTech, Kant will be instrumental in shaping the company’s growth strategy going further.
