Nokia and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) have signed a memorandum of understanding to advance defense communications through 5G technology. The collaboration combines KONGSBERG’s experience in military tactical systems with Nokia’s expertise in mobile and private wireless networks to deliver secure and resilient communications for defense forces and allied nations.

The partnership focuses on deployable 5G solutions that can enhance battlefield communications by improving reliability, interoperability and speed. It will also support integration with unmanned systems and sensors, while aligning with European Defense Fund programs such as 5G COMPAD and the FACT initiative. Looking ahead, the companies plan to explore Nokia’s 6G network as a sensor technology which aims to strengthen situational awareness and military readiness.
