Siemens has joined forces with leading machine tool manufacturers Grob, Trumpf, Chiron, Renishaw, Heller, along with RWTH Aachen’s Machine Tool Laboratory and the Voith Group, to establish a data-sharing alliance for industrial AI. The initiative will pool anonymized engineering, manufacturing, and machine data to develop generative AI applications tailored to industrial environments. A key objective is the creation of the Siemens Industrial Foundation Model, first outlined at Hannover Messe 2025.

The alliance aims to improve efficiency and innovation cycles in manufacturing. One early application is the automated creation of part programs for machine tools, reducing both development time and error rates. Additional use cases include predictive maintenance with machine-specific forecasts, adaptive manufacturing that adjusts to real-time conditions, and energy optimization through smarter machine control.

By aligning expertise and ensuring strict data security standards, the alliance intends to provide AI systems that support skilled workers rather than replace them. Over time, the partnership seeks to bring in more companies and extend beyond machine tools, applying industrial AI across a wider range of sectors.
