Amy Garside and Charlotte Anders-James from Byrchall High School, Wigan, have won the 11–13 age category of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow: Tech for Good idea challenge. Their winning concept, ‘Meal Master’, is an AI-powered food container that tracks nutritional information, caters to dietary needs, and provides recipes and hydration reminders.
The nationwide competition, run by Samsung Electronics UK, invites students aged 11–15 to design tech-based solutions that make a positive impact on daily life. Over 1,100 entries were submitted this year, with participants gaining access to free online resources on design thinking and STEM careers.
Labour MP Josh Simons visited Byrchall High School to personally congratulate Amy and Charlotte, presenting their awards during a school assembly. He praised their creativity and highlighted the importance of innovative thinking in shaping the future of technology.
Mr. Phillip Paul, Headteacher at Byrchall High, commended the students for reflecting the school’s values of ambition, innovation, and community.
