Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation announced that its Indian subsidiary, Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt. Ltd., has signed a major contract with NTPC Limited, India’s state-owned power generation company, to deliver a centralized monitoring system for 165 thermal and renewable power plants across NTPC and its joint ventures. This marks NTPC’s first large-scale deployment of such a solution, scheduled to begin operations in spring 2027.

The system will incorporate EtaPRO, Toshiba’s advanced plant monitoring software used in over 60 countries and supporting 763 GW of global power generation capacity. By leveraging AI and IoT technologies, the system will analyze real-time operational data from sensors to detect early signs of equipment abnormalities, identify root causes, and automate maintenance management. This will enhance plant reliability, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance efficiency.

Amid India’s plan to expand power generation capacity from 399 GW (2022) to 900 GW , Toshiba’s solution aims to help NTPC strengthen operational stability and ensure a secure power supply. According to Daisuke Murata, Managing Director of Toshiba JSW, the initiative reflects Toshiba’s commitment to supporting India’s energy transition through digital innovation, sustainable infrastructure, and the “Make in India” initiative.
