Siemens Smart Infrastructure has launched its new SIRIUS 3RQ4 coupling relays, developed in collaboration with Envalior using a bio-based plastic made from waste cooking oil. The housing material, Akulon® K225-KS B-MB, consists of 70% bio-based content and is halogen-free, flame-retardant, and highly durable. This partnership reflects a move toward more sustainable electrical components, using materials that reduce waste and support circular manufacturing.

The new relay series includes three variants for different industrial needs: a relay output model for harsh environments and safety applications, a plug-in type for easy replacement, and a semiconductor version designed for fast, noiseless, and frequent switching. The relays meet Siemens’ EcoTech criteria, featuring lower energy losses and recyclable design.

Envalior’s focus on renewable energy complements this initiative. In 2024, over half its electricity came from renewable sources, with a goal to reach 100% by 2030. Together, Siemens and Envalior are advancing more sustainable production and energy use in industrial electronics.
