Samsung Electronics has earned the Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum certification from UL Solutions for all its global manufacturing sites, confirming that 100% of its operational waste is diverted from landfills. The certification marks a major step in Samsung’s environmental strategy, which focuses on climate action and resource circularity.

The Platinum designation follows earlier milestones, including Samsung’s Device Solutions division achieving full certification in 2024 and the Device eXperience division completing it in 2025. The company’s approach involves improved waste sorting, employee training, and reuse of materials. Food waste and paper are composted, while construction and electronic waste are converted into alternative fuels or recycled raw materials.

Samsung also reuses materials from semiconductor production, such as waste liquids, catalysts, and activated carbon, in new manufacturing processes. In 2024, the company recycled 1.32 million tonnes of waste and repurposed materials like cobalt and wafer trays for its Galaxy S25 series. These efforts align with Samsung’s long-term plan to expand resource recovery and integrate recycled materials across its products.
