Siemens Mobility has presented its new regional train fleets for the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland (MDSB2025plus) network at its Wegberg-Wildenrath Test Center. The €500 million project includes 75 Mireo trains—comprising 41 three-car, 18 four-car, and 16 two-car battery-powered Mireo Plus B units—ordered by Die Länderbahn and DB Regio. These trains will begin service in December 2026, enhancing capacity, comfort, and sustainability for passengers across the Leipzig region.
The new fleets will feature increased seating capacity, multi-purpose areas, improved accessibility, and modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, USB charging, real-time travel information, and high-frequency windows for better mobile connectivity. The Mireo Plus B trains will operate on non-electrified routes, contributing to the decarbonization of regional transport.
The collaboration between Siemens Mobility, DB Regio, Länderbahn, and regional transport authorities represents a unified step toward advancing Germany’s mobility transition. With up to 25% greater energy efficiency and 95% recyclability, the Mireo platform supports both electric and battery-electric propulsion. Covering over 10.6 million train kilometers annually, the new fleets will significantly enhance travel reliability, comfort, and environmental performance across the Central German rail network.
