Panasonic Automotive Systems (PAS) has become the latest company to join the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool, gaining access to nearly 2,000 patents essential to the 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 standard. The agreement, reached on amicable terms, marks the pool’s first licensing deal within the automotive supply chain outside its founding members.
PAS, a Japan-based Tier 1 automotive supplier that separated from Panasonic earlier in 2025, develops advanced technologies such as infotainment systems for global automakers. By joining the pool, PAS secures patent coverage that supports connected car technologies, including over-the-air updates, in-vehicle entertainment, and real-time vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication.
The Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 program has expanded rapidly since its launch in 2022, with over 30 licensees including Cisco, Netgear, and Acer. It offers a standard $0.50 per device royalty rate for most products.
