Garmin announced that its Garmin OnBoard wireless Man Overboard and engine cutoff system has won the Safety & Security Aboard category at the 2025 DAME Design Awards. The awards were presented at Metstrade in Amsterdam which featured 146 product entries from 37 countries. A jury selected 67 finalists before choosing winners across eight categories.

Garmin OnBoard replaces traditional tethered kill-switch systems with wireless tags worn on the wrist, a key ring float or a clip. Tags can be assigned to captains or passengers. If someone falls overboard the system marks the location on the chartplotter and triggers audible alerts. If the captain goes overboard it also stops the engine automatically. Captains can cut the engine manually through the tag when needed. Up to eight tags can be linked at once which helps protect adults, children, pets or important items on board.

The system works with any boat that has an engine cutoff switch and a compatible Garmin ECHOMAP or GPSMAP chartplotter. It also meets U.S. federal requirements for engine cutoff links. The Garmin OnBoard system is priced at $499.99 and additional tags cost $149.99.
