Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom have signed an MOU to jointly develop core 6G technologies with a strong focus on AI based radio access network tools. The work will be led by Samsung Research and SKT’s Network Technology Office. Their efforts include AI based channel estimation which predicts and corrects signal issues in real time to improve data delivery when radio waves face obstacles. They will also test distributed MIMO systems where multiple base stations work together to support faster and more reliable communication across both cities and rural regions.
The teams aim to advance AI RAN schedulers and AI supported core networks that manage how data is routed especially during heavy user demand. These technologies are expected to shape future hyperconnected services. SKT will provide network data and testing support while Samsung develops AI RAN models and distributed MIMO solutions.
Both companies are active in the AI RAN Alliance and recently had their joint proposal on AI based channel estimation approved as a work item. Samsung has been researching 6G since 2019 and continues to share findings through events and white papers.
