LG Electronics is observing the 50th anniversary of its Gasan R&D Campus, a site that has played a central role in the company’s technology development since its establishment in 1975. The milestone was commemorated with an event at the Gasan-dong facility, bringing together past and present leaders to reflect on the campus’s evolution and long-term contributions.

Originally founded as the Goldstar Central Research Lab, it was Korea’s first privately established R&D facility and represented a shift toward dedicated research outside factory settings. Starting with a small team, the lab produced early products such as one of Korea’s first electronic POS cash registers and later expanded into bilingual typewriters, semiconductor work, and electronically controlled home appliances. These developments prompted the growing team to move to the Guro Industrial Complex as its scope broadened.

Today, the Gasan Campus hosts multiple specialized labs and supports the development of various technologies used in home appliances, motors, compressors, and connected devices. It has also contributed to materials research, including the EasyClean oven surface and the LG PuroTec line launched in recent years. The anniversary highlights the campus’s ongoing role in LG’s long-term research direction.
