Google has shared updates on its ongoing work to support India’s AI development across healthcare, research, startups, and sustainability. Speaking at the “Lab to Impact: Google on Health, Science and Society” event, the company highlighted a series of collaborations aimed at strengthening India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and applying AI to large scale social needs.

In healthcare, Google announced funding to support India specific health foundation models using MedGemma, with partners including AIIMS and IISc. It is also working with the National Health Authority to convert unstructured medical records into FHIR standards and to map over 400,000 registered health facilities on Google Maps and Search.

To strengthen research, Google.org is providing funding to AI Centres of Excellence at IISc Bangalore, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Ropar, alongside support for an Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT Bombay. The company is also backing startups and institutions using open Gemma models for Indic language and governance use cases.
