Google has activated Android Emergency Location Service in India with Uttar Pradesh becoming the first state to fully implement the feature. Emergency Location Service is built into Android devices and helps emergency responders receive accurate location details when a user contacts emergency services by call or SMS.

The service automatically shares enhanced location information using GPS Wi Fi and cellular data. It can also transmit supporting details such as device language. Location accuracy can reach within about fifty meters which helps responders reach people faster especially when callers are distressed or calls drop early.

In Uttar Pradesh the service has been integrated by the Uttar Pradesh Police and implemented by Pert Telecom Solutions Pvt Ltd. It supports emergency requests made to the 112 service which handles millions of calls and messages across the state.

During the pilot phase ELS supported over 20 million emergency calls and messages. The system identified caller locations even when connections were lost shortly after being established. The service works on compatible Android devices running version six point zero and above.

ELS is designed with privacy controls. It activates only during emergency calls and does not require extra apps or hardware. Location data is sent directly from the user’s device to emergency services and is not stored by Google. The service is available at no cost to users and is accessible only to authorized emergency responders.
