Samsung Electronics announced it has completed the industry’s first commercial call using its virtualized RAN solution powered by the new Intel Xeon 6 SoC on a Tier 1 US operator’s live network. This follows Samsung’s earlier lab based milestone achieved in 2024.
The live deployment ran Samsung’s cloud native vRAN on a single commercial off the shelf server from Hewlett Packard Enterprise with a cloud platform from Wind River. The setup shows how next generation networks can run RAN and AI workloads on fewer servers.
By consolidating mobile core radio access transport and security functions on one server operators can reduce power use and simplify network management. This also helps lower capital and operating costs while supporting AI driven services and future 6G readiness.
Samsung’s vRAN uses Intel Xeon 6 features such as Intel AMX and vRAN Boost to improve AI processing memory performance and energy efficiency. The milestone confirms real world readiness of single server vRAN for large scale networks.
