Siemens has announced that its AI powered manufacturing facility in Nanjing China has been named a Lighthouse Factory by the World Economic Forum. The site has joined the Global Lighthouse Network which recognizes advanced manufacturing locations worldwide. The Nanjing factory was recognized in the productivity category for improvements in cost, quality and speed using digital twins and AI driven manufacturing.

The Nanjing facility is Siemens largest research and production center outside Germany for CNC systems, drives and electric motors. It was designed as a digital native factory, fully planned and tested in a virtual environment before construction. This approach helped Siemens respond to shorter delivery timelines, frequent production line changes and fluctuating demand.

To address these challenges, Siemens implemented a digital excellence strategy using end to end digital twins, modular automation, manufacturing operations management systems and more than 50 AI applications. Compared to 2022, the site reduced lead times by 78 percent, cut time to market by 33 percent and increased productivity by 14 percent by 2024. Field failures declined by 46 percent and carbon emissions were reduced by 28 percent.
