Dell Technologies is collaborating with AI Singapore to enhance the SEA-LION family of open source large language models for use on Dell AI PCs and edge infrastructure. The collaboration focuses on testing and validating efficient model performance on lightweight and resource constrained systems.
SEA-LION which stands for Southeast Asian Languages in One Network addresses gaps in global language models by training on region specific data. This enables better handling of local languages and cultural context across Southeast Asia. As an open source initiative, SEA-LION reduces development costs and supports broader community participation and regional ownership.
Dell is supporting AI Singapore by optimizing infrastructure so quantized SEA-LION models can run locally on AI PCs and edge devices. Local deployment enables offline operation, stronger data privacy and lower operating costs. The collaboration also demonstrates real world use through a Voice Transcriber for Southeast Asian Languages integrated with OpenAI Whisper and deployed on Dell AI PCs for real time transcription.
Looking ahead, AI Singapore plans to expand SEA-LION with stronger audio and speech capabilities, improved linguistic accuracy and broader deployment across infrastructure. The work also supports future development of agent based AI systems for regional use cases.
